Fueling Transit Emptying Pockets

Another interesting Toronto idea. Well not so much interesting as, stupid. Very typical.I now know why homeless people seem to hang around in Nathan Phillps Square. They aren't sleeping there, they're stuck in orbit around the centre of the universe. The latest idea out of the city comes in true Torontocentric fashion. The chair of the TTC wants...

Fighting A Loosing Battle

Milton residents are fighting a loosing battle against Town Hall. It seems the more we cry, the more they plug their ears.Apparently, we're all seeing things. Milton doesn't have a traffic problem after all. I think my car must be having problems then. Why else would it take me twice as long to get to school as it did a couple of years ago, even when...

Fighting Drugs with Drugs

Another delightful tale of our big brother to the east. Toronto has a drug problem, a bad drug problem. I'm not going to talk about the dealers though but of Toronto's latest "solution" to the drug problem.Their solution? To get rid of drugs, they give the junkies, drugs. Sounds silly doesn't it. Well, they've been doing it in Vancouver with the heroine...

Dumb Kids, Dumb Government

A report has recently been released that Ontario has the highest high scool drop out rate in Canada. I think they said one in three kids will drop out, but don't quote me.Why is this? Many people blame the new curriculum brought in by Mike Harris in the late 90s. They claim it's just too hard. I have first hand knowledge of this. My class was the first...

Another Oakridges

I've brought this up before and I will again. There is a public question period coming up for a proposed 1800 house on the North East of Termaine and Derry road. Back in the 1980s, residents in the area where told that no major building would be allowed south of the CN tracks because this was enviornmentally protected land. Now they are telling people...

Toronto's Sickle and Hammer

Toronto's mayor and police board, they're communists. It's obvious in the way they act. The Toronto's police union has gone on a work to rule campaign. It's not often I agree with unions but they are right. This administration is anti-police. They won't let them do their job, they won't raise their pay, they won't hire more cops, and they want the...

Toronto Dumps on Us

At last, some Milton news. Unfortunately, it's very bad.In the news today, Halton region has been named on a list from the Ontario government as a possible location to take Toronto's trash. For those who don't know, Michigan has been planning to close the border to Canadian garbage. The McGuinty government had been keeping the list of possible dumb...

The New Governor General

I think it's time we got rid of the office of the Governor General. The GG is a money sucking figurehead. Why does a sovereign nation need a representative to the government of another country? We are always talking about Canadian Sovereignty but we are still sucking at the British teat.In a few days we will have a new Governor General. Her name is...

The Growing Move to Autocracy

Does anybody remember the episode of Star Trek which featured the character Khan? Khan was a dictator on Earth in the year 1996 who appeared in the future. It was claimed that in this year, Earth was ruled by petty dictators and they started the third world war. Now, this is just fictional TV, right? Of course it is, but for how long. There seems to...

Sin City

Still no Milton news so I take you to Toronto, the scene of recent gunplay. The media has colourfully named this activity as the "Summer of the Gun". Now this is a very touchy subject so you might not want to read this if your easily offended. I don't want any emails.Ok, rant mode on.Every week we hear about another shooting in Toronto. This Friday...

Update on Sharia

Today, Mr. McGuinty has outlawed Sharia law along with other faith based tribunals. This just proves you can't screw up all the time. This includes Jewish and Catholic family laws as well. This is great news. Church and state should be strictly separated. However, now Jews and Muslims are upset that they can't use their laws. Boo hoo. If they'd like,...

Liberal Hypocracy

There is a big problem with Canada, liberal hypocracy. This is something I see every day while attending a university, on TV, and on the internet.Liberals are an interesting folk. They have formed the government for the last 12 years but seem to think they are being kept down by the conservative. The conservative tries to silence them with his facist...

Going National

Don't worry, I'm not completely steering away from Milton. However, I'm going to try something different during luls when there isn't much going on in town. I'm going to select a provincial or national issue to talk about that will effect us all. This week, Sharia. This is something that really makes me mad. For those who don't know what Sharia is,...

Update on August 8th Story

Derry road between Bronte St and the new James Snow Parkway has been put out for tender by Halton Region. This will include the delapedated bridge over the 16 Mile Creek. Work should begin Spring 2006. This is one year behind scheduel.Unfortunately, there are no plans to widen it further at the moment. Anybody who commutes to Mississauga will know...

Reduce, Reuse

Another Halton Region beef that effect Milton. I find our lack of recycling appauling. (my environmental views must be confusing our liberal readers) We only get recycling picked up once every two weeks. Judging by the amount of recycling myself and my neighbours put out every other Wednesday, this is certainly not enough. They keep wanting us to recycle...

Say No to Parking Meters

The Town of Milton has proposed putting parking meters in the Downtown. I just have one thing to say, WHY? Why do we need parking meters. It's not like we get that many tourists. Most of them are going to Escarpment Country and Mohawk. This seems to be another blatant tax grab against Milton residents and businesses. Remember that this is the council...

Toxic Water and Tree Murderers

I had some more thoughts on the environment of this town, while drinking a glass of water. I noticed that the water in town has been getting more foul tasting in recent years. This issue has nothing to do with the Town of Milton but Halton Region. I've noticed my water ressembles pool water, not drinking water. Even through those filter jugs I can...

Milton's Diverse Wildlife: The Common Road Kill

This week I'd like to talk about the environment in town. Particularly the toll that urban sprawl has been taking on it. It seems that I am seeing more animals lying dead on the side of the road than roaming in the fields. This is a sympton of careless planning. For a town that is surrounded by one of the province's most majestic natural formations,...

Milton Transit Needs to Grow

Continuing with this weeks traffic stories, I'd to address the public transit situation in town. Milton does have buses, that's great. I feel that public transit will be one of the keys to freeing Milton from it's snarling traffic. The revival of our bus system has been one of the most positive moves the town has made in recent years. Some positive...

Gas, Break, Honk

Milton has several major issues that need to be addressed. They are as follows.-Urban Sprawl-The Environment-Traffic & Noise Polution-Lack of Commercial/Retail SpaceThe one I wish to address this week is traffic. Simply put, there is too much of it with too little space for it. Back when Milton was a town of 30,000 people, two lane roads and stop...

Welcome to The Martin's Mill News

Welcome to my blog, The Martin's Mill News. This is a political blog for residents of Milton, Ontario. It has recently come to my attention that there is a lot of confusion regarding the town's current situation. I found that local media is not critical enough of Town Hall.. I've also discovered that our councilors often do not listen to what people...
